Exams to meet the integration requirement or obtain a permanent residence permit

Exam training

If you have an integration requirement, wish to become a Dutch citizen through naturalisation or obtain a permanent residence permit, you will have to pass either the ‘Inburgerinsgexamen’, or the ‘Staatsexamen NT2’. Depending on your situation you need to pass the language exams at either A2, B1 or B2 level.

Would you like to prepare for the Civic Integration Exam or State Examination NT2? We advise you to take a general language course first to raise your proficiency level in Dutch to the desired level. Once you’ve reached your target level, you can decide to make some practice exams by yourself or to book a few sessions with a private tutor to prepare for your exams. Het basisexamen inburgering in het buitenland,

People who want to stay in the Netherlands for longer than 90 days may need a visa in some cases, depending on their nationality and personal situation. This visa is also called an authorisation for temporary residence (MVV). To obtain an MVV, you must take the Basic Civic Integration Examination Abroad at the Dutch embassy or consulate in your country of origin. In this exam, you must show that you can read and speak Dutch at A1 level.
