The Civic Integration Exam is an exam consisting of five sections that you take in one day at a central location in the Netherlands, and a sixth section for which you need to register separately. This exam section, Orientation on the Dutch Labour Market (ONA), will help you to eventually find work in the Netherlands. The five exam sections are:
Reading, A2 level
This component consists of texts with 25 multiple-choice questions. The test is done on the computer and takes 65 minutes. You need to answer 19 questions correctly to pass. On www.inburgeren.nl/examen-doen/oefenen.jsp you can find a practice exam to help you get ready for this exam.
Listening, A2 level
This component consists of audio clips with 25 multiple-choice questions. The test is done on the computer and takes 35 minutes. You need to answer 18 questions correctly to pass. On

Writing, A2 level
This section is done with pen and paper.
It consists of four assignments: filling in a form, writing one or two short messages, and one or two open writing assignments. The test takes 40 minutes.

Speaking
This exam component consists of open questions and multiple-choice questions.
The first part are videos to which you need to give a response out loud.
Example:
Question: How do you travel to work?
Answer: Say what form of transport you use to get to work.
Your responses are recorded and assessed afterwards.
The second part consists of videos and multiple-choice questions.
Example:
You’ve been invited to a birthday party. What do you say when you get there? a) gefeliciteerd / b) gecondoleerd / c) goedemorgen.

Knowledge of Dutch Society (KNM)
The KNM component consists of 45 questions. You need to answer 26 questions correctly to pass. The test takes 45 minutes. On www.inburgeren.nl/examen-doen/oefenen.jsp you can find four practice exams to help you get ready.
Did you get your MVV after 1 January 2015 or do you need to meet the integration requirement to obtain a permanent residence permit or Dutch citizenship? Then you must also take a sixth exam:
Orientation on the Dutch Labour Market (ONA)
Note: If you have worked as a salaried employee for 48 hours a week for at least six months in the past 12 months, you may apply for an exemption for this exam.
The Orientation on the Dutch Labour Market (ONA) exam is about working and identifying opportunities on the Dutch labour market. This is done by compiling a portfolio.
In addition to the portfolio, the exam consists of a choice of two components:
A final interview based on your portfolio
64 hours of ONA courses
If you follow at least 64 hours of official ONA courses, resulting in a complete portfolio, you are exempted from the interview.
