Aleid van de Vooren-Fokma

Aleid van de Vooren-Fokma came to Amsterdam to study at the university, fell in love with the city (and with her husband) and decided never to leave it again. She studies Dutch linguistics and literature at the Universiteit van Amsterdam and afterwards worked as a language consultant. But education lured and in 2011 she became a teacher at the Hogeschool van Amsterdam (university of applied sciences). By coincidence she started teaching NT2. And she fell in love again. What a wonderful job. Teaching people our language means opening so many doors for them!

Learning a language is incredibly fun and Aleid happily passes that on to her students. There is a lot of laughter in her lessons – but also hard work.

Since 2011 Aleid has lived in Amsterdam North with her husband, daughter and sun. It combines the best of two worlds: it’s a quiet and safe neighbourhood, but by metro it’s less than 15 minutes to Dam Square.
