Language has always played an important role in the life of Lukas IJsseling. After studying Dutch linguistics at the Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam, he worked for more than twenty-five years as an editor of non-fiction books for a number of publishing houses. Today, he still works as an editor, but on a freelance basis, because in 2017 he took up a post as a teaching assistant on one of the language courses offered by the refugee charity, VluchtelingenWerk, and this was so much to his liking that he decided to train as a teacher of Dutch as a second language. Having gained his diploma, he has subsequently combined Dutch language teaching and editing. He has a wife and a son, and lives in Amsterdam. His hobbies are cycling, running and enjoying nature.
